This year Victoria Law School will begin its first major review of courses since its foundation in 2001. The formal part of this process with be managed using the public policy model: terms of reference, discussion paper, consultation and report. The terms of reference are almost ready to be released and along the way we will be using this blog to look at specific issues.
We are adopting the blogging idea from the Australian Law Reform Commission which has quite successful used blog discussion as an extension of the formal consultation process. There are a number of specific issues which could usefully be opened for discussion in this space. We are already working on a discussion of graduate student needs (and whether a JD would address these), a look at how resources can be better used and discussion of innovative delivery methods such as problem based learning and intensives.
The aim is to keep the description brief and open the topic for discussion, particularly links to resources/evidence you might like to share with the review (reports, news, academic papers, etc). If you want to join in please leave your name in your response, or better yet register for a google account so you will have access to google docs and other useful tools.
This discussion takes place in a public forum, please avoid discussing confidential material or making inflammatory statements. This blog is moderated and offending entries will be deleted. Contribution is welcome from staff, students (present and former), colleagues, industry, the profession and other friends of VLS.
